CEN 08/2026 is open for Station Master posts across all 21 RRBs. Any graduate aged 20 to 33 can apply until 25 November 2026, but the eyesight rules rule out a lot of people, so read them first.
The Railway Recruitment Boards have opened CEN 08/2026 for Station Master. It is a Level 6 graduate post with a starting basic pay of ₹35,400, and applications run from 27 October to 11:59 pm on 25 November 2026.
Check the eyesight rule before anything else
Most people will read the age and degree requirements and assume they qualify. The part that actually rules people out is the medical standard. Station Master comes under A-2, which means 6/9 vision in each eye without glasses, plus colour, night and binocular vision tests. If you have had LASIK or any other surgery to correct your eyesight, you are not eligible at all, however well you do in the exam. If you wear glasses, get your eyes tested before you pay the fee.
The basics
You need a graduate degree in any subject, already completed by 25 November. Students waiting for their final-year result cannot apply this time. The age limit is 20 to 33 on 1 January 2027, with 3 extra years for OBC (NCL) and 5 for SC/ST.
The fee is ₹500, and ₹400 of it comes back once you sit the CBT. Women, transgender, ex-servicemen, SC/ST, minority and EBC candidates pay ₹250 and get all of it back after the CBT. Refunds only go to a bank account linked with your Aadhaar, so sort that out now if it is not done.
How you get selected
There is one CBT: 100 questions in 120 minutes, with a third of a mark cut for each wrong answer. Roughly eight times the number of vacancies then go on to the CBAT, the computer-based aptitude test, where you need a T-score of at least 42 in every part. Your final rank is 70% CBT and 30% CBAT. After that come document verification and the medical.
Bring the eye specialist's certificate (Annexure VI in the notice) to the CBAT. Candidates without it are not allowed to sit the test.
Filling the form
You can apply to only one RRB, and applying to two gets both applications rejected. The photo is taken live through your webcam or phone camera, so sit in front of a plain white wall and wear something dark. Your signature has to be in running handwriting, not capital letters, and the scanned file must be between 30 and 49 KB.
If you make a mistake, there is a correction window from 28 November to 7 December at ₹250 per change. Your chosen RRB and the details you entered while creating your account cannot be changed even then.
Our view
With 1,265 posts across the country, the competition will be heavy, and the CBAT is where many candidates who did well in the CBT drop out. It is worth trying a few aptitude-style practice tests early rather than focusing only on the CBT syllabus.
