Eligibility & selection
Who can apply
- A graduate degree from a recognised university, completed by 25 November 2026. If you are still waiting for your final result, you cannot apply.
- Age 20 to 33 on 1 January 2027, which means born between 2 January 1994 and 1 January 2007.
- Upper age limit goes up by 3 years for OBC (NCL) and 5 years for SC/ST. Ex-servicemen and serving railway staff get more.
- Medical standard A-2: 6/9 distance vision in each eye without glasses, and you must clear colour, night and binocular vision tests.
- Not open to anyone who has had LASIK or any other surgery to correct their eyesight.
- The post is not marked suitable for PwBD candidates.
- Apply to one RRB only. Applying to more than one gets every application rejected.
Application fee
₹500, of which ₹400 comes back after you sit the CBT. Women, transgender, ex-servicemen, SC/ST, minority and EBC candidates pay ₹250 and get all of it back after the CBT. Refunds go to your Aadhaar-linked bank account.
Selection process
Exam pattern
Stage 1: CBT
One computer-based test. It is mainly a screening round, but your normalised score counts for 70% of the final merit.
| Duration | 120 minutes |
| Questions | 100, one mark each |
| Wrong answer | 1/3 mark cut |
| Language | English, Hindi or one of 13 regional languages (you pick it in the form and cannot change it later) |
| Section | Questions |
|---|---|
| Basic Science, Maths & Analytical Capability | 60 |
| Logical Capability | 20 |
| Mental Reasoning | 20 |
| Total | 100 |
RRB says this split is indicative, so the actual paper can vary a little. If the CBT runs in more than one shift, marks are normalised.
Minimum marks to qualify: UR and EWS 40%, OBC (NCL) and SC 30%, ST 25%. Ex-servicemen follow the figure for their own category.
Stage 2: CBAT (aptitude test)
About 8 times the vacancies in each RRB, category by category, are called for the CBAT based on CBT merit.
- Questions are only in English and Hindi.
- There is no negative marking.
- You need a T-score of at least 42 in every test battery. There is no relaxation for any category.
- Bring the eye certificate from an eye specialist (Annexure VI, or VI A for ex-servicemen) in original. You will not be allowed to sit the CBAT without it.
RDSO's website has sample material under Verticals → Traffic and Psychology → Candidate's Corner.
Final merit
Only candidates who clear the CBAT make the merit list. It is worked out as 70% CBT + 30% CBAT. Candidates equal to the number of vacancies are then called for document verification and the medical.
If two people end up with the same marks, the older candidate ranks higher. If the age is also the same, it goes by the alphabetical order of the first name.

How to apply
- Go to rrbapply.gov.in. If you made an account for any RRB notice in 2024, 2025 or 2026, log in with it. Otherwise create a new one. You will need your own mobile number and email for OTPs.
- Fill in "Create an Account" very carefully. Your name, date of birth and parents' names must match your 10th certificate. Nothing here can be changed later, not even your mobile number or email.
- Verify your identity with Aadhaar or DigiLocker. You can skip it, but then you face much stricter checks at every stage.
- Pick your RRB and put the railway zones under it in order of preference. You can apply to one RRB only, and this choice is final.
- Take the live photo when the form asks for it. Use a plain white background, wear dark clothes, and keep your face fully visible: no cap, mask or glasses. Do not hold up a printed photo to the camera, as that gets the form rejected.
- Upload your signature: black ink on white paper, in running handwriting (not capital letters), JPG, 30 to 49 KB. SC/ST candidates who want the free train pass also upload their caste certificate as a PDF under 400 KB.
- Pay the fee online by UPI, card or net banking. The form only counts once the payment goes through. For refunds, link an Aadhaar-seeded bank account during the form.
Keep ready: 10th certificate, degree certificate or marks memo, caste/EWS certificate if you are claiming reservation (OBC certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026), and your Aadhaar.
Need help? The candidate helpline is rrb.help@csc.gov.in, or call 9592001188 / 0172-5653333 (10 am to 5 pm on working days). You can also apply through a Common Service Centre.
