Eligibility & selection

Who can apply

  • 12th (+2) pass or equivalent with at least 50% marks in aggregate. The 50% rule doesn't apply to SC/ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates, or to anyone with a qualification higher than 12th.
  • You must have passed by 13 November 2026. If you're still waiting for your 12th result, you can't apply.
  • Age 18 to 30 on 1 January 2027. For UR and EWS that means born between 2 January 1997 and 1 January 2009.
  • Upper age limit goes up by 3 years for OBC (NCL) and 5 years for SC/ST, so OBC candidates born from 2 January 1994 and SC/ST from 2 January 1992 can apply. PwBD, ex-servicemen and serving railway staff get more.
  • Medical standard: B-2 for Commercial cum Ticket Clerk, C-2 for Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist, and A-3 for Trains Clerk.
  • Trains Clerk is not open to anyone who has had LASIK or any other surgery to correct their eyesight. For the other three posts, LASIK is allowed under conditions.
  • If you fail the medical for the post you opted for, you won't be given another post.
  • Apply to one RRB only. Applying to more than one gets every application rejected and you can be debarred.

Application fee

₹500, of which ₹400 comes back after you sit CBT 1. Women, transgender, ex-servicemen, PwBD, SC/ST, minority and EBC candidates pay ₹250 and get all of it back after CBT 1. Bank charges are deducted, and refunds go to your Aadhaar-linked bank account.

Exam pattern

Stage 1: CBT 1

Same paper for all four posts. It's a screening round: your normalised score decides whether you get to CBT 2.

Duration 90 minutes (120 for PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe)
Questions 100, one mark each
Wrong answer 1/3 mark cut
Language English, Hindi or one of 13 regional languages, chosen in the form
Section Questions
General Awareness 40
Mathematics 30
General Intelligence & Reasoning 30
Total 100

About 15 times the vacancies in each RRB, category by category, go through to CBT 2. If you're shortlisted on a reserved category, you stay in that category for every later stage.

Stage 2: CBT 2

Duration 90 minutes (120 for PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe)
Questions 120, one mark each
Wrong answer 1/3 mark cut
Section Questions
General Awareness 50
Mathematics 35
General Intelligence & Reasoning 35
Total 120

Your normalised CBT 2 marks decide who's called for document verification. RRB calls candidates equal to the number of vacancies (1:1).

Minimum marks to qualify, in both CBTs: UR and EWS 40%, OBC (NCL) and SC 30%, ST 25%. PwBD candidates can get 2 marks of relaxation if there aren't enough of them for their reserved posts.

No typing test this time

The typing test for Junior Clerk cum Typist and Accounts Clerk cum Typist has been dropped for this notification. You're still expected to type on a computer, and RRB says this will be checked after you join. Poor typing can delay your confirmation or promotion.

If two people end up with the same marks, the older candidate ranks higher. If the age is also the same, it goes by the alphabetical order of the first name.

Syllabus

The syllabus is the same for CBT 1 and CBT 2.

Mathematics

Number system, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, elementary algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and elementary statistics.

General Intelligence & Reasoning

Analogies, number and alphabet series, coding-decoding, mathematical operations, similarities and differences, relationships, analytical reasoning, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, puzzles, data sufficiency, statement-conclusion, statement-courses of action, decision making, maps and interpretation of graphs.

General Awareness

Current events of national and international importance, games and sports, art and culture of India, Indian literature, monuments and places of India, general science and life science (up to 10th CBSE), history of India and the freedom struggle, physical, social and economic geography of India and the world, Indian polity and governance, science and technology including India's space and nuclear programmes, the UN and other world organisations, environmental issues, basics of computers and computer applications, common abbreviations, transport systems in India, Indian economy, famous personalities, flagship government programmes, flora and fauna of India, and important government and public sector organisations.

RRB says these topics are examples and the paper is set at the level of the qualification for the post.

How to apply

  1. Use only the apply link on rrb.indianrailways.gov.in. If you made an account for any RRB notice in 2024, 2025 or 2026, log in with it. Otherwise create a new one. You'll need your own mobile number and email for OTPs.
  2. Fill in "Create an Account" very carefully. Your name, date of birth and parents' names must match your 10th certificate. Nothing here can be changed later, not even your mobile number or email.
  3. Verify your identity with Aadhaar or DigiLocker. You can skip it, but then you face much stricter checks at every stage.
  4. Pick your RRB and put the railway zones and posts under it in order of preference. You can apply to one RRB only, and this choice is final. A post you don't pick is treated as a post you don't want.
  5. Take the live photo when the form asks for it. Use a plain white background, wear dark clothes, and keep your face fully visible: no cap, mask or glasses. Don't hold up a printed photo to the camera, as that gets the form rejected.
  6. Upload your signature: black ink on white paper, in running handwriting (not capital letters), JPG, 30 to 49 KB. SC/ST candidates who want the free train pass also upload their caste certificate as a PDF under 400 KB.
  7. Pay the fee online by UPI, card or net banking by 15 November. The form only counts once the payment goes through. For refunds, link an Aadhaar-seeded bank account during the form.

Keep ready: 10th certificate, 12th marks memo, caste/EWS certificate if you're claiming reservation (OBC certificates must be issued on or after 1 April 2026, and EWS certificates for the financial year 2025-26), and your Aadhaar. You'll also need proof of the present address you give in the form at DV.

Need help? The candidate helpline is rrb.help@csc.gov.in, or call 9592001188 / 0172-5653333 (10 am to 5 pm on working days). You can also apply through a Common Service Centre.
